Gracie is the oldest resident here at Hart Acres. Gracie was found at Camden Sales, miserable, neglected, injured and headed for the knackery. The moment we saw her, we knew that we needed to help.
After giving all we had to ensure her safety and bringing her back to Hart Acres, we knew that her journey was going to be long and hard. She weighed in at only 118kgs, had huge scabs on her face with exposed flesh and no hair, weeping eyes and weak, cracking hooves. She was in pain, but each day she slowly showed her happiness at being rescued.
Gracie sees a farrier and donkey dentist every 3 months, her feet are treated every week with Copper Sulphate, her eye cleaned every day. Gracie has 2 big hard feeds a day and is happily rugged in the colder months. This beautiful girl (expected to be about 40 years old!) has put on over 30kgs in her time here and has fast become friends with Archie, Coco & D’Jango. She is cheeky, cantankerous and impatient – she is bold, she is a fighter and she carries a sense of something that is truly dignifying, hence her name.
If you would like to sponsor Gracie, her annual sponsorship is $100.00 – this will assist us in feeding her and providing preventative treatments as well as any vet work required. As a sponsor, you will receive an electronic certificate and you are welcome to come and visit her (by appointment) and spend some time our oldest resident.
